BICTAM becomes a new member of IUTAM

In the middle of July, IUTAM 2010 General Assembly meeting took place in Paris as planned. At this meeting, BICTAM’s proposal to be one of the affiliated organizations of IUTAM submitted by CSTAM had been accepted by IUTAM General Assembly. Beijing International Center for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (BICTAM) has become one of the affiliated organizations of IUTAM.

Among the 17 affiliated organizations of IUTAM, the International Center for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) is another ‘International Center’ (accepted by IUTAM in 1970), which had been established in Udine of Italy in 1968. CISM’s activities mainly meet the needs of exchange and application of the most advanced knowledge in the mechanical sciences for scientists and students from Europe.

Founded in 2007, the principal aims of BICTAM are to promote the development and application of mechanics in Asia and the Pacific region. CSTAM had made great progress in operation of the Secretariat, organizations of activities and fund-raising for BICTAM, which was reported to IUTAM Bureau meeting for discussion in August of 2009 in Beijing. Therefore, the Bureau of IUTAM assumed that the application of BICTAM as an affiliated organization of IUTAM was mature and can be submitted to GA in July of 2010 in Paris for decision.

As one of the affiliated organizations, BICTAM‘s influence in the mechanics community will be enhanced in the future, which marks the efforts of CSTAM in the process of building a high level international platform for academic exchange and communication.
